It may only be August, but the people of Norwich have already been asked for their involvement in this year's Norwichristmas event. The city hopes to rival places like Prague, Cologne, Bath and York as a Christmas destination.
A team representing local shops and businesses is working together to organise the event. Last year's event drew crowds to the 80 market stalls selling local handmade crafts, continental products and food. Street entertainment took place throughout the city.
Mark Hand, of The Forum Trust which is the co-ordinator of the event, said: "We learnt a lot last year and feedback from traders and visitors was very encouraging. Last year Norwichristmas was held in the centre of Norwich and mainly during shopping hours. As a result of people approaching us, 2008's event will cover more of Norwich, including Dragon Hall down by the river and the Catholic and Anglican cathedrals and we're happy to talk to anyone else who's interested in getting involved.
"We are also keen to encourage residents and visitors to stay a bit longer in to the evening in the city centre and are looking for the incentive scheme to help us to achieve this. Overall we aim to make this year's event a showcase for all that's good about Norwich at Christmas."
