New Year’s Eve can be stressful because of high expectations for the evening. For those who have to give a toast to bring in the New Year, its best to be prepared.
Experts agree that a toast should be planned ahead of the occasion. Ad-lib toasts can get to be too long, unclear and boring for guests. Don’t feel the need to address every guest at your party during the toast. Brevity is welcomed on New Year’s Eve.
Remember to leave out personal stories during toasts. This will insure that no one will be offended by what you share. If you want to share a personal story during your toast that involves one of your guests, be sure to ask permission ahead of time.
Jokes are not always appropriate for a toast. Guests could very likely be drunk by the end of the night and may not think a pre-planned joke is funny.
If you cannot decide what to say during your toast, consult the web or local library for a list of short poems or sayings that have been used in the past to signify the passing of the old year. Then, add your own personal touch to the words.
To prepare for the toast, rehearse the week before and practice giving your toast in front of the mirror on the day of New Year’s Eve.
