Credit card company American Express reports Christmas shoppers have interesting ways to give and receive gifts this year. The report says 49% of UK Christmas party and holiday shoppers say they plan to buy gifts for themselves this year. On average the shoppers plan to spend around £100 ‘me-gifting.’
American Express Retail Monitor 2007 says the idea of buying Christmas party and holiday gifts for oneself is popular among younger Londoners with 59% of those surveyed reporting they like the concept of ‘me-gifting.’ Other gifting trends evident for the Christmas party and holiday season include ‘re-gifting’ unwanted items.
The study by American Express shows there are 4 types of Christmas shoppers. Destination shoppers will likely set a budget and stick to it. They also shop for presents earlier than most. Jolly shoppers enjoy Christmas shopping and see it as a way to fortify the Christmas spirit. They do not stick to a budget and spend the most on gifts.
Savvy Shoppers will do their Christmas party and holiday shopping online this year. They are likely to stick to a budget but spend more than Destination shoppers. Lastly, Stressed out shoppers will shop in store and spend the least on Christmas party items and holiday gifts.
