New Years Eve Baby Boy for Richie

Lionel Richie has revealed that his daughter Nicole is pregnant with a baby boy, due to be born on New Year’s Eve. The Simple Life star and her partner, the singer Joel Madden, are expecting their first child together but they have so far refused to reveal what sex their child is.

Richie's father let the cat out of the bag, however, when he told OK! magazine: "Nicole is having a boy. She even has a few names picked out." The couple's son is due on New Year's Eve and they plan to marry next year.

Last week Richie and Madden held a baby shower and they decided to donate all their gifts to charity. The socialite celebrated the pregnancy at the weekend with a Wizard of Oz-themed party held by on-off best friend Paris Hilton. The couple has decided to use their newly-formed Richie Madden Foundation to give their presents to 100 less fortunate mothers who are also expecting babies on or around New Year’s Eve.

Actress Rashida Jones, a guest at the baby shower, said: "It's really sweet. With all the swag these days, we're given so much stuff it's almost wasteful, and it's kind of nice when we're giving to each other to give to someone else."

It has been a turbulent year for Richie, with a drink driving conviction and several much-publicized arguments with other socialites such as Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.
