New Years Eve Sleepover Survival Guide
12/12/2007

The kids would like to have a sleepover on New Year’s Eve. Families decide to give it a go or even hire a babysitter to watch the little ones while Mum and Dad go out. Whatever the situation, there are some tips to host a sleepover on New Year’s Eve without buying mounds of junk food and being wary of inevitable tears.

Flapjack Magazine’s Sarah Kingsley published a survival guide with tips for parents.

Kingsley says: “Sleepovers usually start around age 6-7. Some children aren’t ready to sleep away from home but are happy to have a friend to stay. Before your child spends the night at a friend’s house, have a trial sleepover at a close relative’s first.”

Tips include: “Establish ground rules from the start. Set a lights out time and explain you will have to call parents if they don’t stick to the time. Many children don’t like the dark so make sure landing lights are left on and the lighting in the bedroom is what they are used to. snack and small treat in the bedroom helps to get the children upstairs and into their pajamas at least.”
