According to the results of a new survey most Britons would prefer to skip a family Christmas at home, opting instead to spend it in a hotel.
Up to 75 per cent of Britons who responded to a poll from TripAdvisor - the travel information firm - said they would prefer to stay in a hotel for Christmas than stay with relatives.
The Caribbean was the top destination of choice, with thousands hoping to quit the UK entirely for the festive period. This was followed by Hawaii and Paris.
A third of those polled thought that the stress of Christmas could be alleviated by travelling away - despite many also thinking that travelling was the stressful part.
Michele Perry, director of Communications for TripAdvisor, said: "The holidays are for spending time with family, but it appears many travellers want that quality time in moderation ... It is interesting that travel was the second most stressful holiday activity, yet almost one third of those surveyed said the best way to alleviate holiday stress is to take a trip,"
Christmas travellers are urged to ensure they have travel insurance to cover both themselves and their Christmas gifts while abroad.
