Workers 'want more bank holidays'
06/09/2006

British workers believe there are not enough bank holidays between September and Christmas, a new survey by YouGov for Croner HR company has revealed.

A total of 40 per cent of the 2,119 respondents indicated that an extra bank holiday during this three-month period would make them more refreshed for work.

Additionally, half of those surveyed stated that the lack of bank holidays in the lead up to Christmas made them unproductive at work.

Richard Smith, employment services director at Croner, said: "As a nation we moan about being overworked and not having as many bank holidays as our European neighbours.

"Unsurprisingly, therefore, the respondents to our survey said that a long period of time with no public holiday has a negative impact on their productivity."

Further findings from the survey show that over a third of people feel a bank holiday has no positive impact on their job performance, whereas a similar amount of individuals prefer flexible working hours throughout the year.
